Lanoxin 0.25mg Tablet contains the active ingredient digoxin, which is classified as a cardiac glycoside. This medication is primarily used to manage certain heart conditions, including heart failure and specific types of irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias), such as atrial fibrillation. By improving the strength and efficiency of the heart, Lanoxin helps restore and maintain a normal, steady heartbeat, making it easier for the heart to pump blood throughout the body.
Lanoxin 0.25mg Tablet should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It can be taken with or without food, but it is best to take the medicine at the same time each day to maintain consistent levels in your body. Do not stop taking this medication suddenly without consulting your doctor, as abrupt discontinuation may worsen your heart condition. Regular follow-up appointments are important to monitor your response to management and adjust the dose if necessary.
Some common side effects of Lanoxin 0.25mg Tablet include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, visual disturbances (such as blurred vision or seeing halos), rash or skin reactions and weakness and headache. If any of these side effects become bothersome, inform your doctor. Prompt medical attention is needed if you experience serious symptoms like an irregular or slow heartbeat, severe dizziness, or vision changes.
Lanoxin should be used with caution in certain individuals. Inform your doctor if you have kidney disease (dose adjustments may be necessary), recently suffered a heart attack, vitamin B1 deficiency (Beri-beri disease) and are taking diuretics or other medications that may interact with digoxin. Additionally, let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant. Regular monitoring of kidney function and electrolyte levels (potassium, magnesium, calcium) is often recommended while on this medication.
